Wine Workouts
Who says you can't drink wine and be healthy? These workouts are for those of you who hate working out and need a fun incentive for motivation, or for those of you who just want to drink a lot of wine, but don't want to hate yourself afterwards.
Walk to your Local Liquor Store
Before you can even do your wine workout, you're obviously going to need some wine to get started! Burn off those first, initial calories by getting in a good walk to your local wine store. Plus, if you get a lot of wine, you're going to have to carry all of that weight back home, which will burn off even more calories! If it's unsafe for you to walk to your local store, or if you simply just hate walking, call a friend and make them bring you wine. Working out with a buddy is more fun anyway.
Use Heavy Wine Bottles
Heavy wine bottles are key to a good wine workout. Just think, the heavier the wine bottle, the more wine is in that bottle, which means you'll have more to drink when you're done (sounds like a win to us)! Once you have your bottles, substitute those in for dumbbells, and begin your weight workout routine. Make sure you have bottles you can comfortably grasp, we don't want you dropping the bottle on your face, or more importantly, dropping the bottle on the floor wasting all of that precious wine ;).
Opening the Bottles
Once you're done with the wine bottle weight portion of the workout, it's time to actually open the wine! On this step, it's best to skip using one of those fancy electric openers, and to opt for one of the hand twisting ones that looks like a little person waving their arms in the air (we like to think that the opener is cheering us on for working out). We also recommend not getting the bottles with the twist off caps, those just aren't as fun. Next, begin twisting to remove the cork. Just think of all the calories you're burning on this step! Ok, we're kidding, it's not a lot but just pretend. Once you have your wine opened, if you would like to make a tasty wine frappé to cool you off for the rest of your workout, take a small break and prepare some using our quick, basic blender method.
Push-ups and Sit-ups
Now that you have your wine opened and your drinks ready, it's time to dive into the fun stuff! Create some dream abs and arms with a few wine push-ups and sit-ups (or crunches if you prefer). For the push-ups, put your glass of wine or frappé on the floor with a straw and then assume the push-up position directly over top of it. Make sure that when you come down, your face is directly over the top of it. Then start your push-up, and every time you come down, take nice rewarding sip. Once you have finished your push-ups, get down into your sit-up position, and hold your wine glass in your hands. Begin your sit-ups and every time you sit up, reward yourself with a big sip. If you don't feel like sitting all the way up, crunches can also be done. Instead of holding the glass in your hands, leave it on the floor and get a really long straw so you can still take sips. This workout can be accommodated to work for all fitness levels.
Wine Slushy Medicine Ball
If you opted to make some wine frappé for your workout, then this next exercise is for you! Fill a large Ziploc bag full of wine frappé, making it slightly heavy, but so you're still able to easily seal the bag shut. Next, with a partner, start throwing the bag back and forth, using it as a weight ball. As a bonus, the bag should frozen, which means you won't want to hold on to it for very long, burning even more calories!
Cardio
It's time to throw in a little cardio!
Unless you're drunk, then we recommend skipping this step. Choose your favorite
piece of cardio exercise equipment, whether it's a treadmill, exercise bike, an
elliptical, or something else you have at home. Whatever you use, just make
sure it has a water wine bottle holder, that's the most important thing.
Once you get started, reward yourself with some wine for every mile you do! If
you can't make it a mile, reward yourself every 10 minutes (this is flexible
based on your needs).
Yoga
Now that you're almost done working out, it's time to cool down. Stretch your muscles with your favorite yoga poses. If downward dog is your go-to pose, place your wine on the floor (similar to what you did for the push-ups) and sip on your beverage while doing the pose. Here's a fun meme on how to incorporate wine into some other yoga poses!
That's it, you're officially done! We hope you're not too worn out after that (we also hope you have a nice buzz at this point)! If you have any other workouts or tips you think we should add, let us know on our Facebook page and we'll be happy to include them in the list!
Remember to please drink responsibly, and to stay hydrated with water whenever you're doing any sort of physical activity. These workout ideas are all meant to be silly and fun, and done in the comfort of your own home. Do not try to do them at any gym or workout facility, we're sure the gym wouldn't like that too much (unless you share wine with them, then they might make an exception). Be safe, have fun, and get your wine workout on!
