Enjoy Our New Blood Orange Wine Frappé
We are so excited to share our newest wine frappé with you (also the June flavor of the month): Blood Orange! There are many unique fruits out there, but we have to admit that the blood orange is one of our favorites. Read on for tips on how to best enjoy this new frozen cocktail.
What is a blood orange?
The blood orange got its name from the red, almost blood colored pigment of the flesh in the center of the fruit. It gets its red color due to the presence of antioxidant pigments that are common in many flowers, but not citrus fruits. The antioxidants found in the blood orange make it a much sought after fruit, as they contain many more antioxidants than the typical orange. You can pick them out from regular oranges by the reddish maroon color sometimes displayed on the rind. Aside from the color, the flavor differs from regular oranges as well. Blood oranges typically have more of a raspberry taste mixed in with the citrus flavor.
How do you best enjoy a blood orange frappe?
- Mix with your favorite white wine, champagne, or vodka. To make a traditional wine frappé, choose your favorite dry white wine, such as chardonnay, and mix it with a package of blood orange frappé mix. If you want more of a mimosa flavor, mix with champagne for a tangy breakfast cocktail. If you're looking for something with a little more "kick", make the frappe with vodka for a special frozen treat! Head over to the recipe page for specific mixing instructions.
- Serve at your next Summer party. Most people can't resist the tangy, citrus flavor of the blood orange. The next time you're having a Summer party, serve up some blood orange frappés to your guests. This frozen cocktail will keep them cool and refreshed on even the hottest of days. Try serving alongside a spinach and mandarin salad, topped with chopped almonds and raspberry vinaigrette dressing to compliment the unique blood orange flavor.
